balanced man triathlon

team A.C.E. (ashley, cade and emo)

against all odds, team A.C.E. managed to pull off a second place win this past weekend at the balanced man triathlon. that's right, this really happened.
due to a lack of training, we decided to enter the competition in the co-ed team division. we competed against eight other teams in the freezing cold snow.

i completed the 750 meter swim...

cade killed the competition on the 20k bike ride (he pulled in the fastest time of our division and was the only participant in the whole triathlon crazy enough to ride a single speed)...

and emo, the marathon queen, took care of our 5k...

who knew that the end of april would bring such cold weather. it was snowing like crazy throughout the race and a few people were taken to the hospital for hypothermia related issues. i love logan with all my heart, but sometimes it is just too cold.

here are cade and emo at our last transition point. i wish we had a better close up of cade's outfit. he has dance pants tucked into his socks under his biking bib. whatever keeps you warm, right?

this is the little nook we hid in to keep warm and somewhat dry...

team A.C.E. after the race...

we walked away with enough swag to choke a camel. we really weren't planning on winning anything, but to our surprise the second place win pulled in about 150 bucks worth of gift cards and coupons. if you know cade, you realize how big of a deal all this free stuff was. it was a fabulous yet unexpected investment.

i have never been into any sort of racing before... i have always played sports but i am just not very fast. ever since my high school softball coach yelled for me to 'drop the piano and run' after i hit the ball, i have accepted my speedlessness. the triathlon, however, is an event that i think i could really get into. it has variety and is challenging. i always said that i wanted to run a marathon but whenever i try to run long distances, i get bored easily. maybe that will change someday- but for now i just may give the triathlon the old college try. plus, cade really is such a great biker that he should be required to race in events like this. we are already looking forward to the various triathlons in the summer. maybe with a little more training, we will be able to compete against one another next time.

Found all y'all randomly... Sounds like a great effort in not so great conditions and kudos to this Cade character of yours for rockin' the SS against all the geared folk! He must have made a lot of folks cry! ;o)

Peace and happy trails!
